Vonetta Flowers made history with 2002 bobsled run

Her young sons may not yet understand what Vonetta Flowers accomplished back in 2002, but at the Salt Lake City Olympics, Flowers made history by becoming the first African-American athlete to win a gold medal at a Winter Olympics as she and driver Jill Bakken won the gold medal in women's bobsled. For Flowers, a former track standout at Alabama Birmingham, it the culmination of a lifetime of Olympic dreams ... but in a far different arena than she'd imagined. My story on Flowers for the U.S. Olympic site on the 10th anniversary of the Salt Lake City Games. http://www.teamusa.org/news/2012/02/21/vonetta-flowers-jill-bakken-10-years-later/46790?ngb_id=3
