How Daphne Sluys, a 55-year old math professor and masters track standout, became a world champion

Daphne Sluys took up track and field as an adult, and always has been strong. But in 2015 she changed her workout approach and became a masters world champion sprinter. My story about her for ESPNW: http://espn.go.com/espnw/athletes-life/article/14572017/how-55-year-old-sprinter-daphne-sluys-became-world-champion

  1. Why is it among Masters women 400m elite that they are not proportionally as fast as men? For example, world class men run 44, women 50. Women about 13% slower. World class M55 men run 55, and women run only 67... women 22% slower. Why? I don;'t think women masters train as hard as men and for an event like the 400m, their pain threshold is not as high. Just a theory.
