A visit to the Yuma Territorial Prison offers a step back in time
Today, the "Hell Hole," a dank and dark room that was reserved for the toughest inmates, is the most popular spot for visitors to the old Yuma Territorial Prison. But there's much more to see: the lines of cells that were broiling in the summer and cold in winter, the guardhouse that watched over all and the museum, that displays some of the crafts the prisoners used to make to kill the time. The prison is the No. 1 destination for tourists in Yuma, Ariz., and a source of pride to locals, who years ago bestowed the nickname Criminals to its Yuma High sports teams. My travel story for the San Diego Union-Tribune: http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2011/sep/07/plan-to-do-some-time-at-yumas-historic-prison/
