Langford's ironman pitching streak in 1980 -- 22 consecutive complete games -- is something from a bygone era of baseball

Back in 1980, Oakland A's pitcher had a streak of 22 consecutive complete games. In every start from May through mid-September, he went the distance. In all, he threw 28 complete games that season as part of Billy Martin's "Billy Ball"-era rotation of "Five Aces," when the Oakland manager went against the grain and didn't lean on a bullpen. In this era of six-inning quality starts, Langford's streak seems like something from a long, bygone time.
